  • It's a Party!

    Trish Kline, Mary Donev

Paperback (Ghost Hunter Productions, Feb. 1, 2007)
Tab the Crab feels down because he drives a very drab-looking cab. After Pam the Clam invites him to a party, they meet ocean creatures along the way. Tab discovers how much happiness--and color--new friends bring to his life. Helping to expand vocabulary of beginning readers, this tale uses the -ab and -am and -oin word pattern families (example: cab, blab, crab, drab, and so on). Natural rhyming text delights read-to-me listeners. This is an Interactive Book-Webscene (IBW) title. It includes access to seven free online animations called webscenes. Animations display pop-up words in English and English-Spanish. Pop-up words identify objects, actions and abstract concepts. Also included is free access to online learning activities. Includes accompanying word-for-word, English-to-Spanish comparison text. This enables non-English speaking Spanish language parents to monitor their child's reading, even without knowing English words themselves. This sample passage from the book It's a Party! shows how the IBW process works with webscenes: Bump! Bump went the cab! "What is that?" asked Jelly Fish. "My cab is on a slab of rock," Tab the Crab said. "The slab of rock makes my cab go bump." The bump, bump stopped. "Do not stop the bump, bump!" said Star Fish. "Bump is fun!" "Oh, no!" Tab the Crab said. "We are not on the slab of rock. The bump, bump stopped. We are falling!" At the end of the passage, the reader goes online to view the webscene www.ka-reader.com/2-6. In this instance, the webscene animation shows Tab the Crab and friends in a cab falling off a slab of rock and being caught by Sting Ray. The webscene contains the pop-up word "slab." It's a Party! is rated with a Flesch-Kincaid reading level of Grade 0.8 and contains 919 words.
